Dear Parents and Carers,

This week’s events:

In2 sports -This week at In2 Sports we built our imagination skills while pretending to take cheese (footballs) from a cat (coach Dave) and we had to sing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ to make the cat fall asleep. We had a great time!

Forest School -This week at Forest School we practiced our climbing skills, while climbing up a bank using ropes to help us. We then discovered the Gruffalos house and had hot chocolate for snack together.

Bluebells Resources

Donna and Megan are taking part in a year training programme with Surrey CC to develop their environment further. They would like to ask if any of you at home have any old or spare wallets/purses, handbags, scarves, sunglasses, umbrellas or hats (winter or sun) or anything similar; they would love to use them in their role play area that they are developing further. Additionally, if you have any spare or old soft toys you no longer need they would appreciate using them in their story area that they are revamping J Many thanks in advance!

This week’s activities

Each key person will be responsible for designing an activity based on their key children’s needs; however, all children who are in on that day will have the opportunity to access the activity too.

If the key person is on holiday or off, another staff member will be able to lead the activity in their place so that the children do not miss out.

For more information on the Early Years Foundation stage, the guidance we use to support our planning and practice, please visit:

Our Policy of the Week

Non-attendance policy

Aim of policy

To give clear guidelines on what to do if a child expected at setting does not arrive.

Points to consider

This policy needs to be made aware to all parents upon starting at the setting so they understand it is to protect children rather than intrude into personal lives.

Under the Early Years Foundation Stage providers must be alert to any issues for concern in the child’s life at home or elsewhere. By understanding why the child has not attended helps us to form a picture of their life outside of the setting. This policy links to our Child Protection policies.

Childcare and Learning Group aim to achieve this by:

  • Asking all parents to inform the setting if their child is going to be absent and the reason why.

Recording on the registers when and child is absent and why, using the following code:

S = sickness

H = holiday

A = unknown absence

  • If a child is due in and has not arrived, the setting will wait a reasonable time, depending on the child’s session and usual pattern of attendance, before contacting the parent to find out a reason for the child’s absence.

  • This reason will then be recorded on the registers.

  • Patterns of non-attendance can be monitored through the registers.

  • Where possible the setting would encourage parents to contact the setting rather than the setting contacting the parent.

  • When contacting the parents the staff will do so in a sensitive manner whilst explaining the need for the phone call.

  • If a child claiming Funding is off for more than two consecutive weeks or is regularly absent the manager will need to contact the Funding team.

  • The MASH team may need to be contacted. Please discuss this with your Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Kind Regards,

Jess, Charlotte and the South Hill Team
