Week Commencing 23rd May

Dear Parents and Carers,

Forest School

We had an amazing forest school session this week!!  After regular health and safety procedures we headed to the woods ready for fun as Forest School leader Lee told us we were going to make a fire!  We were very excited about the idea so it took us a few minutes to get to the fire place and start getting everything ready for our snack. He helped us to make our own bread snack and it was really easy as we only had to mix flour, sugar and a bit of water. When the mixture was ready we asked Hector and Lee to place it on the grill and start a fire so it could be cooked. When the fire was lit everyone needed to be careful and stay out from the fire pit which is well signed for us to mind.

After having our delicious snack and playing hide and seek we heard a familiar noise, so we got close to find out what it was. We walked through the woods, when suddenly a family of cows appeared in front of us! We slowly got closer and we saw them eating grass.

After another fun hide and seek game we headed back to the van as our super fun forest school session had sadly ended once again.

This week we had another fantastic day at the woods. Although it was wet and a bit rainy we managed to stay dry and have lots of fun.

The current group attending the Forest School sessions have 2 more weeks left, these commence again the week commencing 13th June.  There is no Forest School for the next 3 weeks.

Week Commencing 16th May 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

Forest School
This week we had another super fun day at the woods. Although it was wet and a bit rainy we managed to stay dry and have lots of fun.
After reviewing the golden rules of forest school we headed to a big hill where we could see horses being rode by professionals! We looked at them quietly and tip toed by as we didn't want them to be nervous. After that we continued walking until we saw a big tent made out of branches. We decided to have snack inside as it was dry and cosy.
Once we had snack Lee borrowed a few tools for us in order to make a necklace for all the forest schoolers. We were told to be careful when using sharp tools and always wear protection gloves. We were given a big saw, a drill and a piece of string to lace around our necks. Children and adults worked together to saw a thin log and made a little hole afterwards in order to put the string through it and hold it from our necks.
It was a very fulfilling and fun day in the woods!!

Sun cream and sun hats
As summer is quickly approaching and hopefully the lovely weather will continue can we please ask you to make sure your child has labelled sun cream at nursery and a labelled hat when appropriate.

Health and hygiene procedures

Aim of policy

To give guidance on procedures to keep the children and nursery environment as clean and healthy as possible.

Points to consider

  1. Staff should make every effort to help the children to understand that cleanliness will help to keep them healthy.
  2. To reduce the risk of cross infection, provision must be made for each child to be allocated a bed and bedding for his and her exclusive use, labelled accordingly.  A supply of clean tissues must be available for wiping runny noses etc.  No disposable material must ever be re-used.
  3. Children must be accompanied to the toilet whilst assistance may be given in wiping bottoms, washing hands etc, staff should encourage and show children how to do as much as possible for themselves at the same time ensuring that good hygiene is practised.
  4. Children should be given the opportunity to use the toilet before going out to play, in order to minimise movement into and out of the building and to ensure that supervision of the outside play area is maintained.
  5. Cleaning children’s hands and faces before and after meals must be carried out in a hygienic manner, using one flannel per child.  Used flannels must then be put in for washing.
  6. When changing nappies, staff must wear disposable gloves and aprons and ensure that the child is in a clean nappy when the parent is due to collect.
  7. Specified tabards worn by staff during nappy changing or cleaning tasks must not be worn whilst undertaking any other tasks i.e. during meal times, play activities etc.
  8. Ensure cupboards are stocked with disposable gloves, aprons, wipes, cotton wool, nappy bags and individual labelled barrier cream.
  9. Soiled clothes will be rinsed through and returned.
  10. All cupboards are to be kept clean and tidy.
  11. All toys, games and equipment should be sterilised or thoroughly washed/cleaned monthly or as appropriate.  E.g. notification of communicable illness.
